Andrea – Italy
First off, ten quick questions with a why behind the answer or in this case eleven questions.
Knife or axe
– It’s hard to choose! I like both, but probably I’m on the knife side.
Mountainview or Seaview
– I come from a land where I have both at the same time. But I’m for the mountain view.
Coffee or tea
– Coffee, or chocolate coffee.
Early bird or night owl?
– Early bird, I love to see nature awakening.
Journey by trail or off-trail
– Off-trial, it is more probable to discover new places and with less people.
Tent or hammock
– Tent, even if hammock is easier to carry and set.
Book or movie
– Books, strictly in paper format, nothing digital.
Hot Springs or Cold Plunge Pool?
– Can I choose both?
Canoe or Kayak?
– Canoe.
Meadow or Forest?
– Forest, I love seeing a large expanse of trees to dive into and disappear.
Firesteel or storm lighter
– Firesteel, but I also like, and often use, flint and steel.
When did you learn to appreciate being outdoors?
– Since I was a child, I have always been used to spend my free time in the mountains, sea or parks. So, it’s normal to stay in nature, and, as time goes by, it has become a need for me in this ”modern” world. A safe refuge to relax and be myself, alone or with my family.
Biggest lesson learned being outdoors so far?
– Biggest lesson?! I understood that when we are talking about nature, camping, survival or bushcraft, it’s not important how much we study or practice, we will always have something new to learn.
Your top 3 must have, whether it’s a day trip or an overnight?
– My top 3 must have: first of all my beloved ”kuksa”, it is more like a luck charm than an essential tool for outdoor/bushcraft, but I have always had it for many years and it will always be until it lasts; second my firesteel (or my flint and steel kit); and last, but not least, one of my knives.
Favorite season of the year being outdoors?
– I am a fan of cold climates and cloudy weather, so my favorite seasons are autumn and winter. There’s nothing better to warm up yourself with a campfire, a hot cup of coffee, some good food, all surrounded by snowy landscapes. In summer there are too many insects.
If you could leave for one destination anywhere in the world tomorrow, for you to explore. Where and why?
– I had the luck, in my life, to visit many different countries, but nothing has touched me more than Sapmi landscapes and wilderness. So, I would probably move there instantly. This is one of the reasons why I support Boreal Explorers, and I’m proud of being a member of it.
